Tariq decided to launch the Firm after gaining considerable experience in all aspects of general practice, with owner managed businesses being his speciality.

He qualified as a chartered certified accountant while working in industry in 1999. Prior to qualifying he had worked in general practice as well as the charity sector.

In 2001, Tariq joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Corporate Tax. This role involved all aspects of corporate tax compliance for medium to large companies and proved extremely valuable in building up technical tax knowledge helped by the employer’s excellent training programme. In 2004, he transferred internally to PriceWaterhouseCoopers Audit and Assurance business sector. The role involved undertaking audit and due diligence assignments for medium to large corporate clients, training new graduate intakes and in-charging audit assignments. This role involved regular communication with senior management hierarchy of clients, both verbal and written in recommending improvements to weaknesses identified during the audit field work.

In view of longer term aspirations to establish own practice, in 2006 Tariq  joined a regional practice based in Droitwich to focus on a general practice role encompassing annual accounts, tax advisory including involvement with a stream of tax enquiries, audit and assurance services as well as aspects of personal tax self assessments.

In 2008, Tariq was offered a role at a well established local firm as Accounts / Audit Manager. However, the role involved dealing with all aspects of general practice working mainly with owner managed businesses and was pivotal to paving the way to establishing KMS Associates in 2012.
